Living Retirement Guide

Why do you need a living retirement guide?

After all, isn't retirement that time when you do what you want? It's a time for freedom! Freedom, though, without some structure usually results in a person wandering aimlessly.

Without some structure, meaning in life is lost and you soon become unsatisfied, frustrated with your existence.

As a psychologist counseling retirees, I have seen many couples where their highlight of the day was “Happy Hour” at 4pm. Not a satisfying life, alcohol had become a real crutch for dealing with boredom.

It wasn't that they didn't have things to do; many of them had a full agenda. The problem was either the agenda was not fulfilling or poor physical health prohibited an active life.

A living retirement guide avoids this dilemma. It affords a lifestyle for you where your life is full of satisfying challenging experiences. That is why we have named our business Full Life Seminars.

Life, I believe is to be lived with fulfilling moments hour after hour, day after day. A guide or structure can facilitate this fulfillment without restricting your freedom but giving you more freedom to express yourself and increase your appreciation of your partner.

You construct your living retirement guide so it contains the elements you desire in life. There are three main areas for you to consider: physical, emotional and mental needs.

Within physical aspects you need to look at the place you want to live, what is the best retirement place for you to live? Consider what is the best state to retire in for you. Look at the tax structures, ease of travel to friends and loved ones. Does the weather suit your desired activities? Perhaps you need to consider residences in two states, to be satisfied you have the best state to retire in.

Naturally, your physical health includes exercise. While it doesn’t have to be strenuous, you do need physical exercise routine that you will follow. In your living retirement guide develop an exercise program that you enjoy, not one someone says you should practice. These imposed programs while probably good will do nothing for you if they are not ones you enjoy. These words are coming from someone who had a health club membership, with an exercise program considered one of the best in the city; I never used the club or the program. Instead choose exercise that you enjoy so much that you consider it a treat to engage in. I love walking, I can walk for hours, and so my routine is a half hour walk every morning. I am sure if you grant yourself the freedom to be creative there is an activity that will fit your needs.

The next consideration for your living retirement guide: attend to your emotional needs. This requires reviewing how much your social network will change with retirement.

In our course “Beyond your career; reinventing “retirement”, we focus on both your social and mental needs.

The course has you examine what you find fulfilling and value so you can pursue activities that provide the necessary stimulation and satisfaction. To stay emotionally healthy you need contact with other people and if you can pair that with something that is mentally challenging, you have the best of both worlds.

Mentally, you continually need to be engaged in a pursuit where the outcome is somewhat unknown to you; providing you with unending personal growth as long as you can breathe.

With your personal living retirement guide you are can launch the most rewarding time in your life. Enjoy!
